This landscape depicts how higher art educational platforms in 2045 have taken all shapes and sizes. Some places still look like buildings, but other are rather like parasites, ephemeral forms, many only a journey, a bubble, a gesture. Important change is that different platforms are taken seriously and valued, people can move freely between different platforms – grades and diploma’s are no longer important, but skills and self-reflection is. Participants have their mentor(s) who help them move through this landscape and build their independent trajectories.
The Cone helps categorise future scenarios into four distinct buckets:
And lastly, preferred futures, the Holy Grail of speculative design. Preferred is where you place the scenarios you want to happen.
This is where most design practitioners operate. It describes what is likely to happen unless there is an extreme disturbance or turmoil.
Plausible refers to what could happen. It’s where scenario planning and speculation live.
At the edge of the cone is what might happen, even if it’s difficult to imagine.
